11:22 am	Our Foreign Country It's Tuesday. I have no plans for the day, and probably will curl up in my bed and read Vonnegut all day. I went to Half Price Books yesterday and bought The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, War and Peace, and The Joke by Kundera. I had a copy of The Hobbit before, but I lent it to my brother a year ago, and he never gave it back to me. I own the three-in-one copy of Lord of the Rings, and have read them all, but I want to re-read them, and The Fellowship is the only individual copy I'm missing. I don't think I ever read The Hobbit, but my dad may have read it to me when I was a wee one. I remember him reading all of the Narnia books to me, and A Wrinkle in Time, and many other books. My mom always read me Beverly Cleary or Judy Bloome books . . . that type of thing, up until 5th grade. Anyway, I doubt anyone cares about that. Maybe I should make it my goal for the year to read War and Peace . . . I went to breakfast at 8:30, with Meta and our mothers. Meta told me, once again, that people think I deserve/could do better than Jeff. Too many people tell me that, and it frustrates me. People tell him that I'm too good for him, and people tell me that I can do better. What is better? I keep asking myself that. Jeff loves me, he's good to me, he's loyal and I trust him copmpletely. He does say things without thinking, but his heart is good. He almost never says anything to hurt me. Sometimes I wish he had more motivation. I wish he would get his license, get a job, a car, and get better grades. I wish his spending habits weren't so frivolous, I wish he would stop saying "Fuck" and "Bitch" and "Ass" all the time. I sometimes wish he would think before he speaks, even though a lot of times the crude things he says are lingering in the back of my mind as well. I love him. I had a professor that told me how romantic relationships are like foreign countries. They have their own rules, their own language, and everything. No two relationships are ever alike, and no outsider can ever truly understand the culture of that relationship. The same professor also said there is always a winner and a loser in a romantic relationship. One of the two is always in control, and they struggle to see who will win. The one who is in control is that one who can end the relationship and devastate the other one more, the one who is less in love. He went on and on . . . and love suddenly seemed less romantic. Kundera, the writer I mentioned earlier is a follower of these two ideas. That's what makes his books interesting. Anyway, nobody understands the foreign country of Jeff and my relationship. They observe, but they don't understand. In private we're different than in public, and in pubic we're different than we seem to be. To outsiders it appears a certain way, because of the way they observe us acting, but it's actually not that way at all. Things run deeper than the surface of our behavior, and they don't see that. They don't have a background travel guide on the past four years of our country. 5:37 pm	Party Not much has been going on in my life since I got home from Chicago. I'm having a New Years party tomorrow. I think about 7 or 8 people are coming. I invited Meta, Laura, Tracy, Jeff, Mike, Rudolph, Kim, and Nikki. I baked a cheese cake just a little bit ago. I hope it tastes okay. It's the second cheese cake, from scratch, I ever made. Molly called me this morning to invite me to a New Years party. She's living in an apartment with Lindsey and Jason. She said they all want to see Jeff and me. Since I can't go to their party, we agreed to hang out next Thursday, and she gave me directions to their new place. I'm excited . . . I haven't seen any of them for awhile. So yeah. For Christams my parents gave me a knife (now I can cut cheese without stealing Kim's knives), pencils (the good mechanical kind), two pairs of knee socks, and my mom took me shopping and bought me two new pairs of jeans and a cute jean skirt. My nephew, Jordan, was my secret santa, and he gave me a beanie baby dog, a book on card tricks, a necklace, and earrings. Jeff gave me a huge stuffed moose. I've been reading Fast Food Nation. It's pretty interesting. Before I went on break I checked out about six books from the library at school. I think I was being over optimistic about what I would have time to read in two/three weeks. Jeff is sick and I miss him. He was supposed to hang out with me yesterday and go shopping for the party with me. Then we were going to go to a movie. He was too sick though, so I went with my mom to Rainbow and Cub. I invited him over today too . . .to help me decorate and clean, but he's still too sick. 8:11 am	EuroSpring I tried to post last night, but either OD or my computer wouldn't allow me to. It frustrated me. I have a Spanish final today at noon. I'm not too nervous about it . . . well maybe a little, but I have from 9-12 to study in Maclean if I need to. I don't think I will need that long. I have so much to do today. I need to take my final, pack for Chicago, make Japanese study sheets and study, and read 30 pages in my Personality Psych book and study. I have two finals tomorrow, and after my last one I leave for Minneapolis. I think Anya is staying at my place. I won't get home until 10 or 11 PM. I'm hoping the two of us can hook up with Meta, because she is coming home about the same time I am. I wonder how those two will get along. I'm almost positive I'm going on EuroSpring next spring. It's going to be awesome. I can't wait! If I like Oxford, I might go back for a semester or two of my senior year. I need a 3.5 GPA for Oxford though . . . right now I only have a 3.39. I need to work on that. So I'm going to stay up here all summer taking classes, and working my little butt off. I need to save up! It's going to be a stress-filled summer. My parents told me they will either me take my car up here, or they will find me a new used car if mine is in too bad of shape. I hope they were sincere on that. I need to go to breakfast. 1:37 am	Saucy Wow. Tonight Andy, Mike, and Rudolph went out drinking. They called my phone to tell Anya to pick them up, and Andy kept calling me saucy: "Molly, I just want you to know you're saucy. Don't tell Jeff I said that you're saucy. Let's count down from three and say Molly's saucy." What the hell? Jeff said this morning at lunch he called me a sexy bitch too. Anyway, Anya and Kim went to go get them and bring them back to the suite. Mike admitted on the phone that he's drunk enough for me to play dress up with him. Hehehe. Not much else new. Kim's been being confusing. She won't let me do nice things for her, and she's upset that everybody wants to take her out for her birthday on Saturday. It's a little bit frustrating . . . I like her, and I try to do nice things for her, like I used the tickets I won at Space Aliens to buy her an alien lanyerd because there wasn't anything I wanted to buy with the tickets, and she wanted the lanyerd, but she got upset that I got it for her and keeps trying to give it back to me, but I have no use for it because I have a MSU lanyerd already and I bought it specifically for her. I feel rejected. I know it's nothing personal, she just doesn't like accepting anything from anybody, but it bothers me. In my group of friends here we treat eachother like family and try to take care of eachother . . . she won't let anyone take care of her, like family. I'm sure a lot of it springs from her past, from what she's told me late at night before we fall asleep. Also, Nikki, Jeff, and I built a ginormous snowman. It was at least 7 ft tall and took over two hours to make. Someone knocked it over :( I got pictures though! 12:49 am	Fortune Cookie So, Rudolph, Jeff, and I stopped for Chinese food in Alexandria on the way home for Thanksgiving break. My fortune cookie read, "A man's best possession is a sympathetic wife." What the crap is that!? The two guys laughed at me, and I have to admit . . . the cookie was so politically incorrect that it was a little funny. It's okay though, because Rudolph's told him that he is going to settle down in a mediocre life. Anyway, I made it home and am content with life. 1:25 pm	The Basics Lets see. I don't really know why I started this, because I've been writing on Opendiary.com since my sophmore year in highschool. I guess I was just bored last night, sometime around midnight. Some info about me: My name is Molly and I recently turned 20 years old. I'm a sophmore at Minnesota State University Moorhead. I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Right now I think I might Major in English (emphasis literature), get a BA of Languages (Japanese and Spanish), and minor in Psychology. I was born and raised in Minneapolis. In my free time I love to read, watch crap TV, spend time with friends, and do nerd things (Magic, anime, rpg). I've been really busy with homework lately though, because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, and have been trying to put school before everything else My Important People: My Family: I'm the youngest. I have two brothers (Mark and Matt) and a sister (Meri). My mom and dad live in Minneapolis with my cat (Staccato). I also have three nieces (Kelsey, Elizabeth, and Holly) and a nephew (Jordan) Jeff: My boyfriend since I was 16. We decided to go to college together, and unless something happens, we plan to get married after we finish college. I love him a lot. Even though our personalities are so differnt, we some how are able to understand eachother, and fit together perfectly. Meta: My best friend from back home. We've been friends since the first grade. I love her and miss her a lot. She's going to school in Indiana, and she wants to be an archeologist. Tracy: Another close friend from back home. We've also been friends since first grade. I miss her too. She's going to school to be a nurse or maybe a doctor. Kim and Leah: My two suite mates. Kim and I hang out quite a bit and are getting to be good friends, especially since we started to live together. Leah is good to talk to when you have a problem. Mike and Rudolph: Two friends I've made since I started going here. They're awesome! I love to hang out with them, because they're so weird and they can always make me laugh. They also take good care of me and always look out for me. Anya: My "daughter". She's another friend that I've made since I came up here. She hangs out with me sometimes, but I never really got the chance to get to know her real well because she has a very large quantity of friends. She's a very caring person, and tries to make everybody happy. I do enjoy the time I do get to spend with her. She's fun to be around. Nikki: Nikki is Kim's friend who I just met this year. She's fun to be around . . . she says and does the most random things. I've been getting to know her better as the year goes on.
